DC2021: It Is Important to Take a Long-term Perspective on the New Trends of ECG Therapy Transformation

This week, Device China 2021, organized by Biobay, was successfully concluded in Suzhou Industrial Park. The event, with  12 forums in one main venue, aimed to drive the innovative development of the most competitive industries of domestic medical equipment. During the event, participants had in-depth exchanges of views on the hottest topics, the most cutting-edge scientific findings, the most detailed interpretation of regulations, and the most promising investment directions in the current medical device industry.

In recent years, the industry of medical devices for cardiovascular diseases has been booming. Clinical practices have proved that the prime time for treating cardiovascular disease is shorter than that for cancer. Under such circumstances, it is crucial to develop a new electrocardiograph that meets the clinical demands and follows the development trend of the time.

Suzhou Singular Medical Device Co., Ltd. is a hard-technology enterprise focusing on the R&D and commercialization of medical devices related to cardiac rhythm management ("CRM"). Dr. Ping Lichuan, the founder and chairman of the company, attended the "Forum of Cardiovascular Innovations" as a special guest and participated in the roundtable discussion of "Innovative Technology Enables Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases".

In the "Forum of Cardiovascular Innovations", many industry experts discussed the development of interventional medical devices for treating cardiovascular diseases. The discussed research topics include Advances in the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation by Pulsed Electric Field Technology, Clinical Application of Cardiac Pacing Technology, Pulmonary Artery Denervation, and Exploration of Prevention and Treatment of Sudden Cardiac Death. In the roundtable discussion of "Innovative Technologies Enables Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease", experts also shared their views supported by convincing evidence. The highlights are as follows: Only with the original aspirations of entrepreneurship can we finish the lonely road of innovation; innovation means whole-process support and guidance to the empowered enterprises; we need products with real innovation, not micro-innovation or pseudo-innovation.

Both doctors and enterprises must be clearly aware of the changing environment around us. They must also be convinced that only innovation can lead us to the future, and it will never work to imitate others by simply following their steps in R&D. As enterprises, we should work more closely with clinical doctors, develop more applicable technologies and empower the clinical practices.

When innovating, one can never act blindly but do it through broader visions, active communications, and integrated resources.

Two barriers block the innovation process. The enterprise starving for innovative products must make efforts to break through the two barriers. The first one is a technological barrier. To break through it, the enterprise must bypass the intellectual property of the marketed products and conduct its own fundamental R&D from scratch. The second breakthrough must be made on the regulatory level.

A single flower does not make spring, while one hundred flowers in full blossom bring spring to the garden. A major trend in the intelligent technology area is that big data will play an increasing role in empowering industrial development with greater value. However, we still need help, such as cross-area communication and constructing a data acquisition system in the area.

The future development of intelligent medical devices is promising with difficulties. Now two adverse factors are impeding the development process. The first one is a few medical devices for patients. At this stage, it is unlikely to overcome the problem with many devices in a short time. The second one is the insufficient willingness to apply the device by doctors in the treatment process. In that process, whether the device can facilitate the doctors' diagnosis is still unclear. Therefore, it's safe to say that the application of intelligence is not only a test of technology but also of humanity.
